A little scare

I took Preston in for his 4 year old well visit. The doctor informs me that Preston needed a booster shot. I say ok. They give me the handout to read about the shot and any side effects that I should watch out for.

Preston gets his shot and we are on our way. Well later that evening when we are home I started reading the literature they gave me about the Pneumococcal vaccine. So I get to the last page and it says something like "please notify your child's doctor if anyone in the household is undergoing chemotherapy, radiation and or taking steroids. Well hello, this is me. The Doctor knows I have breast cancer. My short hair cut and lack of eye brows is a physical reminder to anyone that I am going through this.

At this point it is after hours. I don't want to bother my oncologists after hours because I read a warning about a vaccine my 4 year old got. So I call tell-a-nurse. She tells me to contact my oncologist the next day. And if Preston should develop a fever I should keep my distance . Well thanks lady that was a lot of help. I am quite nervous about this. I call my mother. We discuss the different situations that could happen.

I send an email to my doctor's office. The next day I was in for chemo and one of the nurses told me as long as the vaccine was dead, and most of them are I was fine. It is the ones containing live viruses that I would need to stay away from for 2 weeks. Ok good to know.

I was relieved to know it wasn't anything to worry about.

Playing together

There are few moments when I hear laughter or just the sound of cars playing on the floor and I peek my head in to see both boys playing together. This always brings a smile to my face. I feel like maybe things will get easier and they can entertain each other, but often these moments are short lived. I enjoy then while they are happening.


Yes Preston is actually pulling Parker in the laundry basket!This is a car ramp that Jim made for the boys. They were rolling the cars down and I was rolling them back. They love to play this.

A recap on the Dukes

We went to Tractor Supply and found matchbox size cars of the General Lee and a police car. The boys have had them for less than 24 hours and they have played non stop with the "movers" and "roscoe's car". Parker calls it the movers because Bo and Luke wore coveralls in one episode like the movers wear on their show on Disney.

Parker wanted to take them the Church and to bed. I think we allowed him to have them in the car, but not inside the church.

We gave Parker the General Lee and Preston the police car. Preston has taken ownership of his car and will say "mine" anytime Parker tries to take it. We are trying to teach them to share and take turns. It was a great $6 spent!

A momentous day for the Rayburn's

Both Boys went to their classes at Church!!!

This was a first for us. Jim and I were able to go to Sunday School and Young Women's without the distractions of cherrios, books, toys or trying to keep the boys quiet!!

Parker went to primary and Preston went to nursery. Last week the boys were still recovering from colds, but this week they were healthy. Jim took Parker to primary and then he took Preston to nursery. I sat with Parker until sharing time began and then left. I heard one whine. Preston did great and had fun playing with the other kids. They said he only made a noise if someone took his toy.

I think there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Learning to Walk

We call this the grocery cart. The kids love to fill it up with cans and walk around with. Preston loves this toy. His eyes light up when he sees it. He will go back and forth several times. And it is helping him get his legs ready for walking. Although the big kids still like to play with, it can be hard to get your own turn!

He is turning around to make sure Mom is still watching. Doesn't he have the cutest legs?

Mom's shoes

So we like to play in our hallway. It is the perfect place to roll balls or cars and they are contained. I took off my shoes to give my feet a break and they were the next best toy to my boys. Preston put a lot of effort into trying on Mom's shoes. Of course we made a big deal out of it and took his picture, so Parker had to take a turn too!

Loving the pool

Preston decided he wanted to go for a little swim and just crawled right in with his clothes and diaper on. The first time this happened I was unable to take a picture, because I was alone. It happened the next day and Jim was there this time, so I could capture it on film.

He loves the pool. He has crawled in several times with everything on. He plays until he has had enough and then crawls out.

I encouraged Parker to join him.
